Meet FAQs
Everything you need to know about getting your swimmer to a meet and what to expect once you're there. Looking for general team questions? See our [Team FAQs] on the About Us tab.
How do I declare my swimmer? See the Declaring Your Swimmer page for step-by-step instructions. Declarations are due by the Friday before each Monday meet.
How do I mark my swimmer? See the Swimmer Marking page for the full how-to, including where to write the event, heat, lane, and last name.
What if my swimmer can't stay the whole meet or doesn't want to swim relays? Add a note when you declare. Relays are chosen the night of the meet, and the team counts on swimmers staying through the end whenever possible.
What's the Friendship Meet? Our first meet of the season. It's lower-stakes and a good place for new swimmers and families to start.
What's the difference between home and away meets?
- Home meets: Swimmers stay on deck, parents set up tents and chairs in the field. Concessions are available. The $10 concessions fee is collected at registration, so no separate cash donations are needed.
- Away meets: We'll email logistics ahead of each one, including the address, parking, gate access, and warm-up time.
What time should we arrive? For home meets, arrive at 4:45 PM for warm-ups, and leave time for parking and walking to the pool. Away meet arrival times will be shared per meet.
What does my swimmer wear? A team suit if you have one. A plain black suit also works. Team suits are available for purchase at www.swimoutlet.com/fcflyers.
Do we need a team cap? Caps are optional, but recommended. They are sold at practice ahead of the first meet. Watch for an email with dates and times.
What should we bring?
- Goggles and cap
- Towels
- Sharpie (see Swimmer Marking page for how to use it)
- Chairs and a tent are recommended
- Sunscreen, bug spray, refillable water bottle
- Snacks
Where do swimmers and parents go at a home meet? Swimmers stay on deck with the team. Parents set up in the field beyond the deck.
What's the Awards Meet? A fun, day-long meet near the end of the season that brings together all VPSU teams. The team pays for each entry, so please plan to attend if you declare your swimmer.
What about VPSU Championships (Champs)? Champs is the season-ending championship. Swimmers qualify individually for events during the regular season based on their times. We'll share the qualifying times for reference.
