Team FAQs

Welcome to the Flyers. This page covers the questions we hear most often about how the team works. Looking for meet-day logistics? See our Meet FAQ under Meet Info.

We've never done summer swim. Is my swimmer ready? Yes. The Flyers welcome swimmers at every level, including kids who've never raced before. Our Goldfish group is built for our youngest and newest swimmers, and coaches work with each child at their own pace.

What does the season look like? Practice starts in late May. Six regular-season Monday-night meets run through June and July, followed by the Awards Meet, Champs, and an end-of-season celebration. The full schedule is on the Events page.

Who do I contact with questions? See the Contact Us page.

Where and when is practice? Practice is at the First Colony pool. Times shift from afternoon (late May through early June) to morning (mid June through July 31) due to public school release. Current times by age group are on the Events page.

What does my swimmer wear and bring to practice? Any suit works for practice, but we recommend a one-piece for girls and fitted jammers for boys. Bring goggles every day. Caps are optional but useful to start practicing in before meets.

My swimmer is new to swimming or needs extra support. What are our options? The Goldfish group is built for our newest swimmers, and private lessons are available. Talk to Coach Dillon to learn more.

What if we miss practice? Summer schedules are busy and missed practices happen. For swimmers with camp or other conflicts, we offer early morning practice from 7:00 to 8:00 AM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please give your coach at least one day's notice before an absence so they can plan accordingly.

Why is volunteering required, and how do I sign up? Meets cannot run without parent volunteers. Each family signs up for 4 to 6 shifts per season, depending on how many swimmers you have on the team. See the Volunteers page for available roles, training info, and sign-up details.

What is the Swim Buddies program? Swim Buddies pairs older and younger Flyers so every swimmer has a familiar face on the team. Buddies cheer each other on at meets and connect throughout the summer. Pairs are assigned before the first meet.

Do we need a team suit? Not required. A plain black suit is fine for meets. Team suits are at www.swimoutlet.com/fcflyers.

Where do I get a Flyers cap? Purchase at practice in the weeks before the first meet. Watch for the email with dates.

Where do I order Flyers spirit wear? See the Merchandise page or the Shop tab. Direct questions to Evie Burnet ([email protected]).

How does the team communicate? All team emails go through SwimTopia. Keep your email current in your account. Urgent updates (weather, meet changes) come as SwimTopia Alerts to your phone, so download the SwimTopia app. We also have a team Facebook page for reminders and team moments.
