2020 Swim Season
June 7th
Flyers,
Thank you for your patience as we've worked to figure out creative summer swim options and waited for all the necessary information. We are very pleased to offer you another fun Flyers season! As you can imagine, this will look a bit different from past seasons while we work very hard to keep our kids and community safe, but our fabulous coaches are back and ready to bring you a competitive swim camp full of fun, competition, and skill development. Below are the details as well as the link to registration. Please complete registration before June 15 so we have adequate time to finalize coaching schedules and place kids into practice groups.- The season will run from June 22-August 8. Cost: $75/swimmer (family max of $225) and First Colony pool family membership (pool rules for Phase 2 attached)
- There will be no in-person meets this year, including Summer Awards or Champs. The coaches are excited to make this year fun and competitive through intra-team competitions and individual challenges. The Flyers Board has decided not to participate in VPSU for this season as there are no in-person meets, but we anticipate having our own competitive fun. The good news: limited parent volunteer hours and kids will still get to build skills and celebrate their successes with even more individualized coaching!
- Team members must be independent swimmers this year. As coaches are unable to be in the water with children this summer, all swimmers must be able to swim the full length of the pool without assistance.
- Your practice time will be finalized once we receive registration numbers for each age group; practice times for 6 and under will be 30 minutes between 8-9 am; 45 minutes between 9-11 am for ages 7 and up. The 45-minute practices will consist of 30 minutes in the water and 15 minutes of dry-land training in the field beside the pool with appropriate coaching and social distancing.
- Each practice group will accommodate 8-16 kids, depending on age group and skill level. (One to two swimmers per lane plus two in the shallow end and two in the deep end. If two swimmers per lane, they will begin from opposite ends of the pool and six feet of space will be maintained on deck). Swimmers will remain in their lane for the entirety of that day's practice and will rotate stations throughout the week.
- Swimmers must enter through the front gate, 6 feet apart, receive a temperature check, and proceed to an "X" on the deck where they can place their belongings and wait for the start of practice. Parents must not leave until they are certain their child has been admitted to practice after the temperature check.
- Parents and siblings will not be allowed on deck.
- Swimmers should bring their own goggles and towels daily as there will be no shared use of lost and found items this year. Swimmers must come dressed in their suit, ready to practice, as bathroom facilities will only be available for necessary visits.
- Swimmers will exit through the side gate before the next practice time.
- Swimmers who have had a fever must remain home for 48 hours after the fever has ceased without the use of medicine. If your child is feeling sick at all, please keep him/her home - even if it's just a sore throat or headache.
- If any swimmer or family member tests positive for Covid-19, the team President must be contacted immediately ([email protected], 703.862.0294), as we are required to report all cases to the Virginia Department of Health for necessary contact tracing.
- If the pool is required to close for the remainder of the season, a pro-rated refund will be considered for all membership fees.
Best,
