FC Flyers - Ribbons VPSU Style

First, a HUGE thank you to our ribbons volunteers who hand wrote all our ribbons at our first meet. You all made many kiddos happy Tuesday morning.

Dillon did a great job of explaining the “swimmer Tetris” that our coaches engage in every week which highlights the importance of declaring your swimmer early and letting the coaches focus on getting the most points for our team. I did want to provide a little more insight into scoring as well as ribbons for summer swim after some confusion after the WCP meet.

1. The host team decides how ribbons are awarded while point assignment is always constant for our regular meets (i.e. not Awards or Champs). Points are assigned for heat 1 only with points swimmers in lanes 2-5 of a six lane pool, with swimmers in lanes 1 and 6 as exhibition swimmers and points are awarded for swimmers 1-4 in the first heat (hence the importance of Sweeps).

2. After that all lanes of heat 1 and any other swimmers in heat 2 and beyond are scored based on their time as 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, and 8x (x = exhibition).

3. The biggest deviation from what we do is some teams like (WCP) don’t give participation ribbons except for 8 and under swimmers not captured in point 1 & 2.

With all this said I am reaching out to all our remaining host teams to learn how they do ribbons and make sure you all are aware of any deviations from our norm. I have already connected with Kingsmill and confirmed the following for next week (FC Way):

1. heat 1, points lanes 2,3,4 and 5 with the "real" 1-4th place ribbons based on their times.

2. lanes 1 and 6 of heat 1 and any other swimmers in heat 2 and begin to score them based on their time as 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, and 8x.

3. After 8x, and there are more swimmers in heat 3 and so on, they are awarded participation ribbons.

I hope this helps. Believe me I find it clear as mud.

Thank you all and have a lovely rest of the week!

It’s ALWAYS a great day to be a Flyer!
